CATALOG DESCRIPTION
Concert Choir is a choral learning and performance-based music class for students who are interested in singing or learning to sing. Choir students learn basic music theory, music appreciation, Solfege, and harmonization. A wide range of choral literature is learned and performed. No previous experience is required, but students are audition tested for vocal range and pitch matching abilities. Activities Required at Scheduled Times Other Than Class Times. An events calendar and other information can be found at the LHSH Performing Arts Website:
http://lhsperformingarts.weebly.com
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Students are expected to:
1. Develop a healthy vocal technique appropriate for all styles of singing
2. Learn to read music efficiently and refine musicianship
3. Establish a greater appreciation of music and its historical context
4. Practice healthy interpersonal communication with other students and the director
5. Create a healthy social environment within the ensemble
COURSE TASKS
Students are required to attend every scheduled class, rehearsal, and performance. Students are also required to bring their music and a pencil (in a black folder) to every rehearsal and performance.
ASSESSMENT TASKS AND GRADING
This is a performance-based class, therefore grading is heavily based on attendance and participation. Exams and quizzes based on musicianship, music performance, theory, and history will be included in the student’s grade. Any missed performance(s) will warrant an automatic ‘F’ for the quarter. Every un-excused rehearsal/class absence will lower the student’s grade by one mark (ex: A --> A- --> B+ etc.). If the student chooses to not participate in the rehearsal, they will accrue an “un-excused absence” and shall be penalized accordingly.
Grade Scale:
Attendance & Participation 80%
Quizzes and Exams 20%
DISABILITIES ACCOMMODATION STATEMENT If you have a physical, sensory, health, cognitive, or mental health disability that could limit your ability to fully participate in this class, you are encouraged to contact the School Principal to discuss reasonable accommodations that will help you succeed in this class.
